Join the Green Book Discussion Group and Potluck on Thursday, February 21, 2013. We begin with a potluck meal at 6:30pm in the Lounge of the Channing-Murray Building. At approximately 7pm, we will discuss Judith Levine’s Not Buying It: My Year without Shopping (New York: Free Press, 2006). What would happen if you didn’t buy anything for a year? Judith Levine, tired of her own over-consumption, sets out to survive for a year without shopping. As a journalist, Levine traces a year during which she and her partner struggled to stop consumer spending practices in spite of their American conditioning, an effort that had an impact on their careers, family relationships, and personal identities. There are 8 copies available in the San Antonio Public Library and additional copies at several local libraries. Contact: Diane Duesterhoeft.
